OD Version 9 experience/thoughts?
« on: April 17, 2013, 06:37:10 AM »
We aren't a huge OD shop - we have much more in CM than OD today.  Running on Windows Server 2008 (64-bit).  Looking into upgrading OD from V8.5.5 to V9 - just curious what others that have gone to V9 are experiencing?  We are currently also still using TSM 5.5.6 on the same server as our OD server - IBM announced EOS for 5.5.x to be 4/30/2014 so will be having to split up TSM and the OD db's (and we also have our CM Resource Manager running on this server so its db's can't coexist with the newer version of TSM either).  Just curious if anyone has any experiences on that - planning to move the TSM 5.5 system to it's own server still as 5.5 and upgrading once it's on its own server.  Would welcome anyone's experiences with OD v9 and the upgrade, and if anyone has any gotcha's to watch out for for either OD or TSM upgrades.  Thanks!

We just migrated to Version 9.  We use TSM 5.5E and had to defer the TSM migration to the latest level due to the database issue.  The new TSM now uses an external database, either db2 or oracle, and for reasons I do not quite understand cannot co-exist on the same server with CMOD's database.
The biggest issue we are having with Version 9, is that it has introduced a previously unrestricted limit to any single document size.  We have a daily report, which cannot be indexed into smaller pieces.  The report is over 300,000 pages and is about 2.4 Gig in size.  Version 9 now fails to load the report that was loaded by previous versions, due to a 2 Gig maximum.  We also have the PDF indexer and I suspect many of our year-end files will fail as well.  This is a major hurdle for us and IBM is insisting that they have no intention of removing this restriction.  A significant degradation of service over the previous release, if you are a larger institution.

The co-existance issue was resolved with (I think) TSM 6.2 and higher.  I've got customers with CMOD v8, DB2 9.7, and TSM 6.3 happily co-existing on AIX -- although this may be different for Windows.  (Time to consider Linux on x86?)

Thank you for your responses.  I have not seen that they have removed this restriction for Windows - I have been pleading with them to do so because it also impacts our CM system - so I end up needing at least 3 new servers to accomodate this - not going over well here as there have been huge directives to reduce numbers of servers.  If anyone hears that they do make these co-exist with windows, PLEASE post.  Also good to know on the size issue - will check that out for us too.  Good to know!

Hi - I had a similar conversation with the IBM support specialist and they said the same thing what's written here. Not sure why there will be a restriction on the size of 2GB in this day and age. What if the report can not be broken down to pieces or need not  be broken down just ship it directly to tape?

Thanks,
Siva

I agree with what is written here, CMOD 9 works with TSM 6.3 and DB2 10.1.

CMOD and TSM in Windows is NOT advised at all, and cannot coexist.

As Justin said, you can have TSM and CMOD in the same UNIX box, you will only need to link 2-3 files from the DB2 libraries in the lib64 of the CMOD installation directory.

Concerning the 2Gb Limit... I was not aware of it... I'll check what I can find here... :-(

Sincerely yours,
Alessandro
